Details:
It Hurts To Be Seen was written and recorded over the course of 2001 and 2002. Don holed up in his sinister garage and pounded out keyboard noise whilst bellowing incoherently. Upon reflection, he found the result to be surprisingly musical. It should be shared with the world!
To that end, he recruited three sets of individuals (Motown style!) to record the next Shut-Ups album. Producer/multiinstrumentalist Jason NeSmith (also leader of Casper and the Cookies) and Chris formed one team; some Athens and Atlanta luminaries formed another; and Darkis, Steve, and Thad formed a third. The luminaries all dropped out except for What The...? bassist Lyle Bufkin. At the last minute, Don decided a second lead voice was required. He exercised his coercive powers on Ceiling Fan frontman Ben Spraker.
After the recording, Steve, Thad, Ben and Darkis were invited to join the live Shut-Ups band.
